The Campaign for an American Solution made its seventh stop in Providence, Rhode Island.  This stop focused on continuing the constructive conversations on health care reform started two months ago.  This time we talked with a cross section of Rhode Island employers and employees.  Given the importance employers, large and small, play as providers of health care coverage for millions of Americans, having the opinions of these stakeholders is critical.

Rhode Island’s employers and the state are dealing with the same health care challenges facing all 49 other states.  According to the Kaiser Family Foundation, in Rhode Island:

  • 10% of all families with at least one full time worker do not have health insurance versus 15% nationally
  • 98% of all firms with 50 or more employees offer health insurance

As we have heard from countless individuals, business leaders, elected officials and community leaders, the time for health care reform is now.  The input from employers and employees from a state like Rhode Island added another important part of the foundation of our industry’s plan for real health care reform.
