Their state legislature appointed a special committee to meet and discuss solutions to be able to ensure all Utahans, and the Salt Lake Chamber of Commerce put together a working group to address the needs of their members.

Small business plays a large role in the Utah and the Small Business Administration reports Utah has approximately 236,000 small businesses.

According to the Kaiser Family Foundation:

  • In 2006, 46% of private sector establishments offered health insurance to their employees which is lower than the national average of 56%, and
  • 32% of private sector firms with fewer than 50 employees provide insurance compared to 43% nationally.

The Campaign went to Salt Lake City to hear from elected officials, small business owners, and employees of the small businesses to understand the costs of the current health care system and find solutions.
